The Ring twO, relased on April 1st 2005, follows on from The Ring, which was released in 2002.

The legend began with Seattle journalist Rachel Keller investigating the sudden and mysterious deaths of her niece Katie and three of her friends. Not only did they all die at the exact same time, but they also all appeared to have died from unexplained heart attacks.

After speaking with her niece's schoolmates, Rachel heard a rumour that Katie and her friends died because they watched a videotape during a weekend spent at a cabin, after which they received an enigmatic phone call telling them that they have one week before they die. Rachel took a trip to the cabin in question and there she discovers the videotape, an 'art film on acid' containing enigmatic and disturbing imagery. Within seconds of having finished watching the tape, the telephone rings and Rachel learnt she too had only seven more days to live.

With potentially only one week before she succumbed to the videotape's curse, Rachel enlisted the help of her ex-boyfriend Noah . Together, they investigate further, and find that the tape is connected to a long-dead woman named Anna Morgan and her daughter Samara.

Unfortunately, this knowledge did not bring them any closer to finding out how to break the seven-day curse. Furthermore, the stakes were raised when Rachel's quietly precocious son Aidan became 'infected' by the video. Eventually they thought they had broken the curse when Rachel destroyed the tape.

The Ring two picks up six months after these horrifying events in Seattle. To escape her haunting memories, Rachel takes Aidan and moves to the small coastal community of Astoria, Oregon, to start afresh. However, Rachel’s resolve turns to dread when evidence at a local crime scene – including an unmarked videotape – seems eerily familiar. Rachel realises that the vengeful Samara is back and more determined than ever to continue her relentless cycle of terror and death.
